Coast to Coast Cycle ride

Seventeen local people took part in the 3 day event from 3rd-5th July 2010. We started the challenge with our back wheels in the sea at Whitehaven and finished with our front wheels in the sea in Tynemouth - 140 miles taking in many large hills and mountains!!

We organised a van to take up the bikes - Wendy drove the van and Sam drove a mini bus for all the cyclists. Within minutes of departure we had our first puncture. The support staff of circlers and friends did an amazing job in the back up vehicle. For 3 days they provided us with refreshments plasters wipes and huge encouragement.

There was plenty of fun and banter along the way as well as a few beers on the overnight stops!!-and on completion of the ride we presented the cyclist with a medal of a  beautiful home made pom pom (Karen Hirst). Finally, fish and chips and champagne on the beach to celebrate a wonderful weekend.  Oh and by the way £14,000 raised to date!!!! Many thanks for the support from Elland Round table throughout the weekend

New Chairman for Elland Ladies
Circle

On the 11th April Elland Ladies Circle held their AGM at the Rock Holywell Green. Each year a new Chairman takes over and this year our Chairman is Katie. The Chairman chooses the charity she would like to raise funds for during her year in the “Chair”. Katie has chosen the Alzheimers Society as her main charity this year.

A speaker from the society (Rachel) recently attended a club meeting to tell us about their work and to thank us for choosing them as our charity.

Good Luck to Katie for her year as Chairman

In March, 15 Elland Ladies Circle members and friends visited Keswick for a weekend away.  Viv and Judith chose a lovely hotel close to the centre of Keswick. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and ate in the hotel. The meal was excellent and afterwards we had drinks in the bar.

We were up bright and breezy for breakfast on the Saturday morning and set off for the launch to take us over to Hawes. We were very lucky with the weather!! The group split in 2 with one half doing a lower walk round the foot of Catbells and the other half walking up and over Catbells.

In the evening some of us ate early due to the strenuous walking and others later (after a rest!).  On the Sunday morning we did a short 4 mile walk to a nearby pub for lunch. The platefuls were ENORMOUS. After a lovely lunch we all set off for home having had a fantastic weekend.
