We recently spent a Ladies Weekend in Edinburgh - fourteen of us travelled up by train on a cool Yorkshire morning in March. We had a great time shopping, eating and walking. We were lucky, the weather was glorious ! We missed the awful weather in Yorkshire so we felt awful for our other halves who were going around in wellies ! We stayed in a central hotel so could mostly walk to shops etc. We spent a morning on an open top bus tour and some of the ladies had beauty treatments in the hotel.

On the 13th March Elland Ladies Circle celebrated their 48th Charter. This is a annual celebration of the setting up of the club. The event was held at No 1 Brook Street, Elland. The meal was rounded off with speeches from our Chairman Victoria and Round Table Chairman Richard. The entertainment for the evening included a Ladies Circle “sketch” around a “My Fair Lady” theme.
On 30th January 2010 Elland Ladies Circle rowed the English Channel and back. Well ok, it was on 2 rowing machines in our Chairman’s front room. Twelve members rowed 6000 metres each, a total of 72,000 metres, the distance from Dover to Calais and return. We started rowing at 10:30am and completed the challenge in just over 4 hours. We “stopped” for a bite of lunch in “France”, consisting all things French - bread, cheese, pate, wine (if you wanted) followed by some lovely home baked cakes.
In all we raised approx £500 which will go to our main charity this year which is Skill Shop. Left is a picture at the end of the Challenge !
